What is Base de loisirs Orange Montisel

The Orange-Montisel leisure lake in Saint-Sixt is a managed swimming lake at the foot of the Bornes range, a few minutes from La Roche-sur-Foron and Bonneville. The site combines a clean swimming reservoir — supervised in summer — with tidy green spaces that make it a popular family destination in the Faucigny. Shaded lawns, a grass beach, wooden pontoons and easy access to the water make for a real "beach day" experience 30 minutes from Annecy or Geneva, without the crowds of Lake Geneva.

What to do. In summer, swimming is the main draw: cool water, safe bottom, dedicated children's area. Pedalo and light-boat hire is available depending on the season, as is fishing (federal permit required). Large picnic areas with tables and benches invite you to stay all day; a snack bar usually opens in high season. On land you'll find a children's playground, walking paths around the lake and plenty of grass for outdoor games. The setting, open to the peaks of Le Môle and Le Bargy, is also great for photography and birdwatching.

Practical info. The base is generally open from May to September, peaking in July-August when swimming and catering run at full capacity. Site entry is modestly priced and access is easy by car from the A410 (La Roche-sur-Foron exit), with a large free car park. For a great day, arrive early on a sunny weekend, bring sunscreen, a parasol and water shoes, and check the lifeguard times before leaving. Out of season, the site remains open for walks.
