What is Les Jardins de Lornay

Les Jardins de Lornay occupy a terraced hillside above the Fier river, in the commune of Lornay (Vallières-sur-Fier), a short distance from Rumilly. The place has become known for its collection of hardy bamboos — a mountain bamboo garden that is rare in the region — accompanied by ornamental grasses and perennials spread across gardens of romantic inspiration.

Along the walk, you come across different varieties of bamboo (black bamboo, fargesias, phyllostachys), a pond and viewpoints over the valley. The site is also home to a nursery specialising in non-running bamboos, as well as a café-restaurant that works with the garden's produce. The visit can be done freely or on a guided tour led by the creator of the site.

When to visit

Open weekends and public holidays in spring and autumn, daily in July-August. The bamboos, being evergreen, keep the garden beautiful from April to October.
