La Turbine sciences is the scientific, technical and industrial culture centre (CCSTI) of Haute-Savoie, located in the Passerelles eco-district in Cran-Gevrier, a delegated commune of Annecy. The building, a former paper mill, houses nearly 1,000 m² of interactive exhibits, a digital planetarium and workshop spaces. The non-profit venue is designed for children (from age 4), families and school groups, with seasonal themes: life sciences, environment, physics, astronomy, digital.
What to do. Three areas complement each other. The permanent exhibits offer hands-on manipulations (optical illusions, everyday physics, biology). One or two temporary exhibitions tour through each year (Universcience, Cap Sciences). The planetarium runs immersive shows under the dome, accessible from age 6. During school holidays, 1-2 hour workshops are led by science mediators (robotics, illusions, chemistry experiments). Lectures and science shows fill out the evening and weekend programme.
Good to know. The venue is fully accessible (wheelchair-friendly, audio description on some shows). Plan at least 1h30 on site, up to half a day with planetarium and workshops. Tickets are around €5-7, free under age 6, with a family pass and discounts for Grand Annecy residents. Booking advised for the planetarium and holiday workshops. The Passerelles district also offers riverside walks along the Thiou — perfect before or after the visit.
