What is Musée Montagnard des Houches

The Musée Montagnard des Houches is a folk arts and traditions museum housed in a 1750 heritage building in the centre of Les Houches, opposite the church. Run by the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley Community of Communes (CCVCMB), it belongs to the same network as the future Musée du Mont-Blanc and the Espace Tairraz, and is included in the CCVCMB Museums Pass at 25 EUR/year.

The collection was bequeathed by architect-urbanist Albert Laprade. The visit reconstructs the traditional rooms of an alpine house from the 18th to the 20th century: pèle (living room), outa (kitchen), sarto (cellar), attic, with farming and pastoral objects from 1750-1950, costumes and everyday tools.

The temporary exhibition 'Téléphériques et Compagnie' retraces the history of the cable cars of Les Houches since the 1936 Bellevue installation. Caution: museum closed in May 2026; reopening for summer 2026. Prices: adult 5 EUR, reduced 4 EUR, free under 18.
