What is Passy Plaine-Joux
Passy Plaine-Joux is a small family-friendly alpine ski resort, perched on the plateau d'Assy at 1 360 m of altitude, at the foot of the Fiz cliffs. Its distinguishing feature: a wide, unobstructed, front-on view of the entire massif du Mont-Blanc, which faces the resort.
The ski area offers 12 km of pistes spread over 10 pistes (3 green, 3 blue, 3 red, 1 black), served by 7 ski lifts — including the 4-seater Barmus chairlift, opened in July 2024, which links Lac Gris to the summit of Barmus — as well as drag lifts and magic carpets for beginners.
A cross-country skiing area rounds out the offer, with the Lac Gris and Châtelet d'Ayères loops, freely accessible without a pass during the resort's opening hours. Snowshoeing, sledging runs, a snowtubing area and access to the Barmus chairlift for non-skiers seeking a panorama complete the winter line-up of a human-scale resort, best suited to beginners and families.
Passy Plaine-Joux is also the gateway to the réserve naturelle de Passy and the starting point for many hikes, while being one of France's most renowned paragliding sites thanks to its south/south-east exposure. Nearby: Lac Vert, Jardin des Cimes, the Plaine-Joux paragliding take-off site, cascade de Chedde and lac de Passy extend the exploration of the area.
