What is Flaine
Flaine is a pedestrian mountain village built in the 1960s from the plans of architect Marcel Breuer, a leading figure of the Bauhaus movement — a modernist concrete architecture that is now the signature of the place. Located at 1 600 m altitude in the commune of Arâches-la-Frasse, it occupies a natural cirque known for its reliable snow cover, up to the Grandes Platières at 2 500 m.
Flaine has 64 pistes served by 24 ski lifts, and provides access to the entire linked ski area of the Grand Massif (Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns, Sixt), which offers a total of 139 pistes and 265 km of pistes across 62 lifts.
Marked off-piste skiing is practised in the combes de Gers and de Véret, and a Nordic area is set up at the Col de Pierre Carrée with several pistes of all levels (green, blue, red, black). Ski touring, adaptive skiing (handiski) and free beginner zones complete the winter offering.
A ski-in/ski-out and family-friendly resort (ESF ski schools), Flaine also stands out for its open-air collection of modern art, with works by Pablo Picasso, Jean Dubuffet and Victor Vasarely scattered around the resort — a cultural stroll that extends the stay, in winter as in summer.

Free intra-resort shuttles all day between Flaine Forêt, the Hameau de Flaine and the Col de Pierre Carrée site (summer: free shuttles Les Carroz ↔ Flaine). Advance booking strongly recommended.
