What is Morillon

Morillon is a small family village resort in the Giffre Valley, built around the historic village (1 100 m) and the Esserts plateau, up to 2 100 m in altitude. It is one of the 5 linked resorts of the Grand Massif, along with Flaine, Les Carroz, Samoëns and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval.

The Grand Massif area advertises a total of 139 pistes, 265 km of runs and 62 lifts — figures covering all five linked resorts, not the Morillon sector alone. The Coulouvrier chairlift, said to be the longest in Europe with a 2,9 km ride, links Morillon directly to the rest of the area.

Among the pistes specific to Morillon is the Marvel, a green themed run with life-size animal silhouettes, whose lower section also serves as a sledging run (5 km) on certain days during school holidays. The Nordic skiing mileage specific to Morillon is not stated by official sources.

Off the slopes, the resort revolves around lac Bleu and its leisure area: supervised swimming, a summer bike park and hiking trails extend the stay in a human-scale village atmosphere.

How to get there

By car

By car, take motorway exit n°18 Cluses/Scionzier, then follow signs towards Samoëns; after the Col de Châtillon, follow the signs towards Morillon — about 15 minutes after the motorway exit.

The nearest train station is Cluses, with a shuttle to Morillon. On site, the free Skibus/Giffre network links accommodation, the village centre and lift departures in winter, but generally does not go up to Morillon 1100 / Esserts plateau, except when the cable car is running.
