Samoëns is a historic village resort of the Grand Massif, in Haute-Savoie, renowned for its heritage as a village of stonemasons (the “frahans”), who shaped the facades, fountains and buildings of the old centre over the generations. The ski area is reached from the village by gondola up to the high-altitude sector of Samoëns 1600.
Samoëns is one of the five interconnected resorts of the Grand Massif (along with Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval). This ski area boasts a total of 265 km of pistes, 139 pistes and 62 lifts, between 700 m and 2 500 m in altitude — figures that apply to the whole of the Grand Massif, not to the resort of Samoëns alone.
For cross-country skiing, Samoëns has several sectors: the Haut-Giffre valley, the Joux Plane sector (at 1 700 m, trails graded from green to red) and the Fer-à-Cheval sector, complemented by snowshoe trails and a sledging run.
Off the slopes, the village lets you discover the Jaÿsinia alpine garden, the lac aux Dames leisure centre for swimming and water sports, the Clos Parchet farm-ecomuseum for local farming heritage, or rafting on the Giffre for whitewater sports.
