What is Biotope Lake of Combloux

The Biotope Lake of Combloux is France's first public biological swimming site, inaugurated in 2002 and completely renovated in 2022. With a 2,900 m³ pool, the water is naturally filtered by over 10,000 aquatic plants distributed across four interconnected basins, without any chemical treatment. Located in the heart of the village, the site offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Mont Blanc massif, the Aravis range and the Aiguilles de Fiz.

Visitors can swim in four 50-metre lanes, relax on the grassy beach or granite sun deck, and enjoy a family area with gentle sloping access and a sandpit for toddlers. The water temperature, naturally warmed by the sun, varies between 18 and 26°C depending on weather conditions.

The lake stands apart from conventional swimming facilities through its comprehensive ecological approach. Access is limited to 800-1,000 people per day to preserve the balance of the living filtration system. A day wristband allows unlimited in-and-out access. On site: snack bar, parasol and deckchair rental, baby facilities (changing table, food warming), and a motorized lift for wheelchair users. Entry ticket also grants free access to the temporary exhibition at Ferme à Isidore.
