Gorges de la Diosaz

The Gorges de la Diosaz, in Servoz, are one of the most spectacular natural sites in the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley. Listed since 1911, they were fitted out in the late 19th century by the Servoz commune, which still manages them. A 1.6 km wooden and metal walkway winds above the torrent, sometimes dozens of metres above the bottom of the gorges.

The walkway runs from the ticket office downstream up to the Cascade de l'Aigle, the highlight of the visit, passing a sequence of waterfalls and rocky pools: the Cascade Soufflet, the Cascade des Danses, the Cascade du Pont Naturel and several giant's kettles. The water flows from the Mont-Buet and the Aiguilles Rouges range — which is why the flow remains powerful even in midsummer.

Entry is paid during the open season (typically May to mid-October); an information panel at Le Vieux-Servoz covers geology, flora and fauna. The round trip takes 1h30 to 2h on foot. The site is hugely popular with families and pairs well with a visit to Chamonix, the Plateau d'Assy or the Mont-Blanc.
