The Marais de Poisy (or Poisy-Macully Marsh) is a 30-hectare wetland located between the town of Poisy and the hamlet of Macully, classified as a Sensitive Natural Area by the Haute-Savoie Department since 2013. Formed in a glacial depression dating back 15,000 years, the site harbors reedbeds, wet meadows, and remarkable biodiversity: grey herons, Eurasian reed warblers, black kites, dragonflies, frogs, toads, and newts.
A 1.5 km interpretive loop trail winds through the marsh's most remarkable habitats. The route, dotted with educational panels about flora and fauna, is accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs in dry weather. You'll discover a bird observatory, picnic tables, and drinking water at the starting point. The trail takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk, though birdwatchers and nature photographers will linger much longer.
Restored from 2008 onwards to become a true biodiversity reservoir, the marsh offers nature immersion just minutes from Annecy, away from the tourist crowds around the lake. It's one of the few accessible natural areas in Haute-Savoie where you can easily observe amphibians and waterfowl in their natural habitat while enjoying a relaxing family walk. The LPO (French Bird Protection League) regularly organizes discovery outings on this ENS-labeled site.
From Annecy, take the D16 towards Poisy (10 min). Free parking at Poisy stadium, near the skate park (trail starting point).
