What is Calvary Hermitage Museum

The Calvary Hermitage Museum at Megève is the interpretation centre for Megève's Calvary, a major heritage site of the Mont Blanc area. Opened in 2013, it occupies the Hermitage, a former spiritual retreat, and tells the story of an exceptional project: the construction, between 1840 and 1878, of a Calvary path with 14 chapels and oratories retracing the Passion of Christ.

This path is the work of one man: Father Ambroise Martin (1791-1863), parish priest of Megève from 1820 to his death. Inspired by the Sacri Monti of Piedmont, he devoted more than forty years to seeing it through. Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments. Free entry; guided tour €5.50.
