What is Parc du Château
The Parc du Château overlooks the town of Taninges, historic capital of the Faucigny, at the heart of the Giffre valley. The site occupies the heights where, in the 18th century, Joachim de la Grange, Count of Taninges and Flérier, had a vast château built — a witness to the Savoyard aristocracy of the Ancien Régime that shaped the identity of the quarter.
A century later, in 1857, Laurent-Marie Humbert, a jacquemard (watchmaker-industrialist) who had made his fortune in Paris, returned to his ancestral lands and built a new residence with outbuildings on 1,400 m: the Clos du Chalet. The estate dominated Taninges until 1995, when the property became public.
Today the Parc du Château is a free public space, open all year, every day. It offers remarkable views over Taninges, the Pointe de Marcelly and the Aravis range. Lawns, mature trees and stabilised paths make it a family walking spot, a picnic ground and the setting of summer events such as the FestiGrat's festival.
