What is Saint-Jean-d'Aulps
Saint-Jean-d'Aulps is a family-friendly village resort in the vallée d'Aulps, in the Chablais, near the Portes du Soleil ski area without being part of it. Its ski area, La Grande Terche, wooded and located between 970 and 1800 m in altitude, is linked to the Espace Roc d'Enfer, a sector shared with Bellevaux-La Chèvrerie.
The ski area boasts 32 pistes covering 50 km (8 green, 9 blue, 13 red, 2 black), served by 16 ski lifts (1 gondola, 4 chairlifts, 11 drag lifts), complemented by a forest trail of more than 20 km.
For Nordic skiing, the local ESF offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing lessons and outings, with no official total mileage published to date.
Off the slopes, the resort remains human-scale: an outdoor ice rink, sledging and special equipment (snowscoots, sit-skis, snowbikes, yooners) on certain lifts. Just nearby, the Abbaye d'Aulps, a Cistercian monastery founded around 1094, extends the discovery of the valley beyond ski season.
