Eterlou Walking Trail

The Eterlou Walking Trail is a fun, educational interpretive route at Pré-la-Joux, a high-altitude sector of Châtel at around 1,230 m, just beside the chairlift of the same name. Designed for families with young children, it forms a loop of about 0.6 km walked in around 50 minutes, with no technical difficulty: about 4 m of cumulative ascent and 15 m of descent.

Along this short route, around ten educational panels answer children's questions about the mountains: animal habitats, feeding habits, seasonal behaviour and risks (encountering a flock, crossing a stream, etc.). 'Eterlou' is the Savoyard dialect word for a young chamois, the trail's running theme. The path runs alongside the river coming down from Bassachaux: keep an eye on young children. In winter the site is shared with the toboggan runs and the snow play area of Pré-la-Joux. The trail is open from 1 May to 31 October, every day, weather permitting.
