What is The Fox Trail
The Fox Trail is an emblematic nature walk at Morzine, in the Vallée d'Aulps. The route follows the old way up to the Nyon alpine pastures, along the Dranse, and offers an introduction to the life of the fox and its role in the ecosystem, the riverside habitat (otter, trout, riparian woodland) and the geology of the Aulps valley.
From Morzine church, you cross the old bridge, pass the library to reach rue Bidon, then drop under the road via a footbridge and follow the path along the Dranse. Educational panels line the route, covering wildlife, flora and the riverside environment. Allow about 2 hours return and 160 m of climb to reach the Cascade de Nyon, or about 4 hours and 420 m of climb if you carry on to Lac des Mines d'Or from the Nyon car park.
The path stays wide and gently sloped, suiting the whole family; in winter, it can be snowshoed. Free access year-round.
