What is Aiguille du Midi Cable Car

The Aiguille du Midi cable car links Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (1,035 m) to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi at 3,842 m in two sections and roughly 20 minutes. Operated by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, it is one of the highest cable cars in Europe and the quickest panoramic vantage point facing the Mont Blanc range.

At the top, visitors can step into the famous Step into the Void glass box, suspended 1,035 m above the valley; ride the summit lift to the 360-degree panoramic terrace; explore the Espace Vertical mountaineering museum at 3,777 m; watch the Mont-Blanc 4D film at the lower station; and cross to the Italian side aboard the Panoramic Mont-Blanc gondola to Pointe Helbronner (summer only).

2026 prices: adult return EUR 60.20 - 83, child rate available. Season: year-round (subject to weather and maintenance windows). Hours: from 7:10 a.m. to 6 p.m., variable depending on season. Partially accessible for visitors with reduced mobility (top section by lift). The Aiguille du Midi is also the launch point for the Vallée Blanche, the legendary 22 km off-piste glacier descent.

When to visit

When to visit

The Téléphérique de l'Aiguille du Midi feels different depending on the season. In summer (July-August), the 6:10am departures are the insider's tip: clear sky, golden light on the massif, low crowds before 9am. Between 11am and 3pm in high season, the wait can exceed 1 hour both at the ticket desks and for the cabin. In winter, the cable car serves as access to the Vallée Blanche for guided off-piste skiers; tourists enjoy fewer crowds and a snowy setting. The shoulder seasons (May-June, September-October) offer the best compromise: fewer crowds, often favourable conditions, and dynamic prices at their lowest.
Events : The cable car is open almost all year except for maintenance closure (2 Nov – 18 Dec 2026). Exhibition openings at the Espace Vertical and themed evenings at Le 3842 restaurant are announced on the official website.
