What is La Chapelle-d'Abondance
La Chapelle-d'Abondance is an authentic village resort in the vallée d'Abondance, in the Chablais, and one of the French gateways to the large international Portes du Soleil area (12 Franco-Swiss resorts).
Alpine skiing takes place across two sectors linked by a free shuttle: the historic Crêt-Béni sector (north-facing, through the fir forest) and the Braitaz sector, connected to the Swiss village of Torgon. The area (including Torgon) offers 35 km of pistes and 24 runs served by 13 lifts, mostly green and blue — a family-friendly profile.
The village mainly operates the largest cross-country ski area in the vallée d'Abondance: 23 km of cross-country trails (classic and skating) along the Dranse, with a beginner biathlon stadium, a secure sledding area, and snowshoe routes.
Beyond skiing, the resort cultivates a natural and authentic character: the Musée du ski ancien (in a Savoyard farmhouse dating from 1783), a dog sledding activity, and, in summer, access to the vast trail network of the Portes du Soleil.
