What is Muséum des Papillons et Insectes
The Muséum des Papillons et Insectes is housed in the Château de Faverges, at 293 chemin de la Vie Plaine in Faverges-Seythenex. Run by the Amis du Muséum association, it displays an outstanding collection of more than 5,000 butterflies and insects from five continents. It is the only museum of its kind in Savoie and Haute-Savoie, and one of only three in France.
The visit is laid out in three continental rooms: Europe-Siberia (local and northern fauna), Amazonia (morpho butterflies and tropical insects) and Africa-Asia (giant moths, goliath beetles). A live stick-insect vivarium completes the trail to delight younger visitors. Temporary exhibitions refresh the offer each season.
Very affordable prices: adult 4 EUR, child 5-14 3 EUR, free under 5. The '3 sites 3 histoires' pass at 8 EUR adult combines the Muséum with the Viuz-Faverges archaeology museum and the Donjon des Seigneurs de Faverges. Summer hours 17 June-31 August: Mon-Fri 2-6.30pm, Sat 9.30am-12.30pm. Out of season, Wednesday 2-6pm by appointment. Full step-free access throughout.
