What is Plage de l'Impérial
The Plage de l'Impérial is Annecy's iconic beach, stretching 17,000 sqm of imported sand and lawn on the shore of Lake Annecy between the Plage d'Albigny and the Pâquier. Bordered directly by the Voie verte du Lac d'Annecy, it is easily reached on foot, by bike or jogging from the city centre in about 5 minutes.
Major change in 2026: the beach becomes paying in the summer season, according to the city of Annecy. Deputy mayor Marie Bosson stated to France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (April 2026) that the beach will be 'secured, fenced and therefore paying' in response to crowd-control issues, with announced 'very modest' fees in the first year (final rates to be confirmed by municipal order).
