Reedbed Trail

The Reedbed Trail is a boardwalk laid out by the Saint-Jorioz commune along the shore of Lake Annecy. About 1 km long, it crosses one of the largest reedbeds on the western shore, a buffer between the lake and the wet meadows.

The wooden boardwalk on stilts lets visitors walk through the reeds without damaging the fragile substrate. Interpretation panels along the way explain how reedbeds form, their role in water quality and biodiversity (pike spawning grounds, little bittern nesting, reed warbler song). You can regularly spot mute swans, coots, great crested grebes, herons, and in spring the yellow flag iris in bloom.

The walk takes 30 minutes to 1 hour, out-and-back or as a loop depending on the variant. It is free and open year-round, an ideal stop on a family day out on the western shore, combined with the Saint-Jorioz municipal beach, the Lake Annecy greenway or a walk up to the Roc de Chère.
