What is Tour of Abondance Village
The Tour of Abondance Village is a very easy family walk that takes about 1 h 30 to discover the historic town of Abondance, its heritage and the surrounding nature. The loop starts from the village centre and first follows the path along the Dranse. It then climbs gently through woodland on the slopes above Abondance to a viewpoint with an open panorama over the village, its mountains and the bell tower.
The route passes close to the Abbaye d'Abondance (12th century), a Cistercian site open daily in summer, and the Maison du Fromage Abondance, where you can stop to discover the making of Abondance PDO pressed-cooked cheese and the diversity of Savoyard cheeses. From there, a forest track along the banks of the Dranse leads back to the village centre.
The route is waymarked in yellow (PDIPR); a map is available at the tourist information office. Dogs must be kept on a lead because of the grazing herds.
