What is Path of the Alpage — Discovery Trail
The Path of the Alpage is a marked discovery trail inviting walkers to explore the Vallée Verte in the footsteps of Guy Chatiliez, author of the 1977 book Alpage de mon enfance. From a Savoyard family at Habère-Lullin, Chatiliez recounted his childhood memories in the alpine pastures his mother took him to from age six. The trail revisits these places and invites walkers, panel by panel, to relive the atmospheres and gestures of alpine pastoral life described in the book.
The route measures 6.5 km with 330 m of cumulative climb, about 2 h 30 of walking at an easy pace. The start is behind Habère-Lullin church, a 10-minute walk from the village centre, on a gently descending path with dry toilets along the way. The trail features 8 themed stations, each with a panel covering an aspect of alpine pasture life: cheese-making, herd, gestures, equipment, seasons.
QR codes on each panel link to audio extracts from the book. Free year-round, best from May to October.
