What is Discovery Walking Trail of La Vernaz Village

The Discovery Walking Trail of La Vernaz Village is an easy family walk laid out by the commune of La Vernaz, in the Vallée d'Aulps (Chablais), 15 min by car from Thonon-les-Bains. The trail starts at the town hall car park, where a welcome panel sets out the route, then follows a small tarmac road towards the hamlet of Plan de la Chaux.

Its charm lies in the reading tables and drawing tables dotted along the way: at every viewpoint or clearing, walkers can sit, learn to recognise local trees and work out their age, or take time to sketch the landscape. The trail then dives into the forest as far as the pink marble quarry of La Vernaz, a witness to the valley's geological past. It is an ideal outing for families, nature lovers, amateur sketchers and rural-heritage enthusiasts of the Chablais; the route is easy and presents no technical difficulty.
