What is The Peasant Museum, a PAYSALP Culture & Heritage site

The Musée Paysan at Viuz-en-Sallaz is one of the flagship sites of PAYSALP Culture & Patrimoine, a recognised association running a fully fledged multi-site ecomuseum in the Haut-Faucigny. The museum offers an immersive 500 m² exhibition that retraces mountain life between 1850 and 1950, a pivotal period between ancestral traditions and early modernisation.

The route brings to life the craftsmen, peasants and villagers of the time: carpenter, blacksmith, farmers, schoolteacher. Each tells their daily story through careful reconstructions, authentic objects and audio or tactile devices. A 1924 schoolroom is built into the visit: visitors can sit on the wooden benches and try a few questions from the old Certificat d'Études Primaires — a moment always enjoyed by families and school groups alike.

The museum also offers two paid bookable activities: the "Absurd Game" (life-size board game, €10 adult / €7 child) and the "Explor Games" (immersive investigation game, €10/person). Museum prices: €7 adult, €5 child 5-15, free under 5. Hours: Monday-Friday 10 am-12.30 pm and 1.30 pm-5 pm (until 6 pm in summer from 10 July to 1 September). Group activities year-round by reservation. Address: 628 avenue de Savoie, 74250 Viuz-en-Sallaz.
