What is Château de Beauregard

The Château de Beauregard at Saint-Jeoire-en-Faucigny (74490) is one of the most evocative fortified manors of the Faucigny. A 12th–13th-century fortified manor, it was owned by the La Fléchère family for 8 centuries — an exceptional case of family continuity in Savoyard heritage. The original rectangular keep, with walls 1.20 metres thick, is typical of Faucigny Savoyard military architecture.

The castle had an eventful history: burnt in 1589 during the Bernese invasion (Reformation), restored in the 17th–18th centuries; burnt again during the French Revolution, restored in the 19th. Given to the diocese of Annecy in 2004, the château was entrusted in 2008 to the Fraternité Eucharistein, a mixed Catholic community founded in 1973 (monastic life, spiritual guesthouse, retreats). The interior cannot be visited outside the European Heritage Days in mid-September.

The standout feature is that the château is illuminated at night — a lighting scheme that highlights the walls, the keep and the approaches, visible from the D907 road and the village of Saint-Jeoire. It is one of the few castles in Haute-Savoie to offer a free, unsupervised night-time approach, particularly striking in winter. Free admission to the surroundings year-round; interior only during the European Heritage Days. Car recommended (no direct public transport), A40 Bonneville exit 15 minutes away. Leashed pets welcome.
