What is Plage de Saint-Disdille

Plage de Saint-Disdille, also known as Plage de la Châtaigneraie, is a free public beach located east of Thonon-les-Bains in the Corzent district, on the French shores of Lake Léman. Blue Flag certified since 2010 for water quality and environmental facilities, it stretches at the foot of the extensive 4.6-hectare Châtaigneraie park and borders the Ripaille state forest.

The beach comprises a grass area shaded by century-old chestnut trees, popular for picnics and relaxation, and lake access with a pebble and gravel bottom. Swimming is supervised from July 1 to August 31, 10:30 am to 7 pm, with a rescue post and lifeguards on duty. In summer, several thousand walkers and swimmers visit this very family-friendly site daily.

When to visit

When to visit

The beach is accessible year-round, but the ideal period runs May to September for pleasant temperatures and water activities. July and August offer supervised swimming and 22–24 °C water, but are also peak season: favour mornings and evenings to avoid crowds. In June and September, water is cooler but the beach is noticeably quieter. Out of season, the site remains a popular walking destination, with beautiful light on Lake Léman and the Alps in the background.
